I learned last night that my Uncle Martin passed away at the ripe old age of 99 years and six months. He was a great husband, father, military officer, entrepreneur and author. Another uncle of mine had started Oral B Hygiene Company during the depression and Martin eventually became Vice President. After Oral B was sold, out of desperation he started the Dental H Hygiene Company, which eventually became the 6th largest toothbrush company in the world.
He was a wise, humble and modest man who experienced many challenges in his life and business career. He was a great inspiration and encouraged me many times including this letter he sent to me in 2005 after launching Smart Sales Solutions in June of 2004. Instead of retyping his letter, I thought it would be best to read from his original old school type writer and edit notes. There are so many pearls of wisdom for all of us about: overcoming difficulty and challenges, fear of failure, importance of success in sales, making a profit, money, effective prayer during times of distress, courage and going up against large competitors.
Our family motto is “Per Aspera ad Astra…Through difficulties to the stars.” That sums up Martin Rudnick’s life. He persevered through many trials and is now with His Savior and Lord in heaven.
