Now that you understand The Greatest Obstacles to Mastering Time and 4 Keys to Controlling your Day; you are now ready to put into your day key leveraging components, disciplines and mindsets to start growing and expanding your business. There are 4 steps you must take if you are serious about going to the next level:
1- Schedule Daily Business Growth Activities. When you intentionally move your day to executing in High Pay off activities, business automatically grows. It is a cause and effect result of your actions. By definition, High Payoff Activities have a direct result on sales and producing revenue and requires a higher skill level to execute that task. The two activities that have the greatest impact on growing your business – that most people starve or at best inconsistently execute in are Prospecting and Business Development. Stephen Covey identifies these activities as Important/Non Urgent tasks. Committing to these disciplines daily will grow your business. Most people find the greatest success scheduling these activities first thing in the morning.
2-Think like a Top Producer. If you are seeing ordinary people around you producing at much higher levels, you might want to start mirroring or incorporating their good habits into your business and day. We have identified the following mindsets our highest producing clients embrace:
1. Schedule your prospects/clients when you are available.
2. Do everything by appointment including all personal High Payoff Activities.
3. Execute only in High Payoff Activities.
4. Delegate- batch (at low energy times) Low Payoff Activities.
5. Know your dollar per hour value and continually work on increasing it.
6. Pre-qualify hard to sell easy.
i. Stick to your sales process.
ii. Only present to highly qualified prospects.
7. Early in – early out.
i. Start your day no later than 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.
ii. Keep most evenings for family. The best of the top producers don’t let business run
them and have their priorities straight.
8. Only work with prospects who work on your terms.
9. Prospect daily and put yourself in a position of selectivity and abundance.
3- Plan Your Day the Night Before. Those who leverage their time best plan their work the night before and then work their plan the next day. Before they go home, tomorrow is mapped out and appointments are set with themselves for the entire day- including all business growth disciplines. This maximizes home and life balance as well- putting up a barrier between business and personal time- allowing the switch to be turned off on the business engine for a time. Other activities scheduled for the next day include Voice/email check and return time so tyranny of the urgent doesn’t take over. Strategically planned in the next day is reduced windshield time-or eliminating where possible.
4- Implement Key Time Management Disciplines. I know the concepts I have described sounds wonderful, the reality is unless you put key time management concepts into your business – none of the above will happen- at least consistently. Building an Ideal Week and then time blocking daily-planning your next day the night before are the first steps. Prioritizing your day and managing your time blocks are the internal steps to increasing the likelihood you are successful in time blocking. If you are struggling with staying on your schedule, time track or journal your week and compare to what your schedule shows. You may need to adjust or recommit to your original plan.
